B&B Ida Maria Porvoo

Normally he is awake by 7 am. Now he slept so soundly, I had to wake him up to have a breakfast at 8 am.

While in Finland, you must take an opportunity to use the sauna.

We had a room with a view of a narrow, old fashioned street. For a moment, I almost felt like I had been transferred into Sherlock Holmes story!

Viime viikolla vietimme kaksi päivää Porvoossa, pikkukaupungissa Helsingin kupeessa. Porvoon ehdoton helmi on vanha kaupunki. Tyttäremme sanoin: "Tämä on kauniimpi kuin satukirjoissa!".
Yövyimme vanhan kaupungin ytimessä - tai no, totta puhuen Porvoon vanha kaupunki on niin pieni, että siellä on väistämättä koko ajan ytimessä - B&B paikassa nimeltä Ida Maria.

Olen enemmän hotelli- kuin B&B-ihmisiä. Samoin on tyttärenikin. "Tämä ei näytä siltä, että täällä on sata huonetta", hän kommentoi skeptisesti. Minä taas koen olevani liian vanha jakamaan vessan muiden asukkaiden kanssa.

Ida Maria sai meidät kuitenkin käännytettyä. Tässä B&B:ssä on viisi huonetta, oleskelutila ja yhteiskäytössä olevat vessa ja kylpyhuone saunalla. Huoneemme oli tilava ja viihtyisä, nukuimme kaikki mainiosti. Mahduimme koko porukka suihkuun yhtä aikaa ja lapsilla oli huisin hauskaa.
Aamiainen oli maukas kanamunineen ja karjalanpiirakoineen.

Ida Mariassa oli meidän kanssamme myös pari muuta asukasta. Yksi heistä oli australialainen nainen. Hän olkoon todiste siitä, että paikanpäälle kannattaa tulla kauempaakin.

Last week I visited Porvoo, a small city near Helsinki, with two of my kids. Porvoo is famous with tourists mainly because of its old town, which maybe small, but lovely anyhow. We stayed over-night at B&B Ida Maria, located in the heart of the old town. 

I am more of a hotel than B&B person, and so is my daughter. "This does not look like it would have 100 rooms," my daughter said skeptically. I, on the other hand, feel that I am too old to share toilet with any other people than my family members.

But Ida Maria did a good job. This B&B has five rooms, a living room, and shared bathroom and toilet facilities. Our room was large and lovely, we all slept really good. In the evening, we could all fit into shower together, and the kids were having a splash. Breakfast was delicious with karelian pies and eggs. 

While at Ida Maria, there were couple of other travelers. One of them was an Australian woman. I think it is great - and amazing - that someone from such a faraway place finds their way to Porvoo!
