Ben Armstrong.
Hän minä olen tänään.
Olen tiedemies, innostunut molekyyleistä.
Yritän yhdessä kollegani kanssa vakuuttaa lääkeyhtiötä pistämään dollareita
geeniterapiaan perustuvaan sairaudenhoitoon.
No, ei vaiskaan.
Oikeasti en ymmärrä molekyyleistä mitään.
Olen vain mukana lääkeyhtiö Bayerin järjestämässä koulutuspäivässä, jossa
simuloidaan prosessia, jonka avulla lääkkeet kehitetään. Minun lisäkseni mukana
on parisenkymmentä toimittajaa ja potilasjärjestön edustajaa.
Tiukasta aiheesta huolimatta, nauran päivän
aikana paljon.
Tämä päivä on yksi esimerkki siitä, mitä
rakastan kirjoittajan työssäni. Pääsen tutustumaan maailmoihin ja ihmisiin,
joita en muuten kohtaisi. Saan luvan innostua ja oppia asioita, joita en olisi
itse edes tajunnut haluavani oppia.
Ben Armstrong.
That is who I am today.
I am a scientist,
and very excited about molecules. Together with my colleague, I try to convince
a pharmaceutical company to put some dollars into gene therapy.
Well, not really.
In real life, I
understand nothing of molecules. I am just taking part in a pharmaceutical
company Bayer’s event, where around twenty of us are participating in a
simulation, which is supposed to help us to understand, how new medicines find
their way into market.
In spite of the
seriousness of the subject, during the day I laugh a lot.
This day was an
example of what I love in my work as a writer. I get to know people and things
that I would never bump into otherwise. I have a permission to be excited and
learn about ideas that I never even would have guessed I’d want to learn.
I hope that all
of you are able to find this sort of joy in your work, too. And to all you big
bosses and members of boards, I wish the wisdom to let your workers to have the
chance and time to be enlightened with ideas.
Because that is
how the important stuff is found, sooner or later.
